Internet explorer 6 does not open and just hangs

Hello

I hope someone can help. I am using Windows XP with IE 6. Everytime I try
to open a browser the page does not load and just sticks. The only way to
get rid of the page is to go into task manger and end the process. There
seems to be more than 1 iexplor process in there even though I have only
tried to open 1 browser window.

You can however access the internet from typing an address from my computer.
The only problem with this is you cannot right click an IE link to open a
new window as nothing happens.

To try to fix this I cleared out all temp internet files, and also cleared
the history. The same thing still occurred. I changed the default home page
but still no luck. I have uninstalled IE and then re-nstalled but this has
not resolved.

I have logged on in safe mode and ran adware spyware but this did not find
anything.

When I was in safe mode I could open an IE browser and connect to the
internet without any problems.

After searching the internet for some fixes there does not seem to be an
obvious fix that I can find.

I have tried fixes found on net such as

regsvr32 scrrun.dllâ€
regsvr32 msxml.dllâ€
regsvr32 mshtml.dllâ€
regsvr32 shdocvw.dllâ€
regsvr32 browseui.dll
regsvr32 msjava.dllâ€
regsvr32 urlmon.dllâ€
regsvr32 actxprxy.dll

I have also booted from my windows XP CD and repaired the windows
installation but still the same thing happens.

Right click the IE icon on the desktop and choose Properties (or go to
Internet Options in the Control Panel).
On the Advanced tab uncheck "Enable third-party browser enhancements".

Then you either have an incompatible addon such as a toolbar or you have
malware.

1. Click Tools | Manage Add-ons and disable them all. Then recheck that
option in Internet Options | Advanced. Make sure everything works then
start enabling addons until you find the culprit. Uninstall the culprit.

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing Messenger Plus, whose ads for
malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince you that you
owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.
