Internet Email properties window doesn't open under OL2000

I have Outlook 2000 running under Windows XP Pro SP2. I have one email
account setup and need to set up another. When I click on tools, services, I
get the services window with "Internet Email" showing in the window. I then
select this and click on properties and nothing happens. Properties works for
the address book service.

The same happens via other methods of trying to set up email accounts. I
have tried rebooting, running detect and repair, also re-install via the CD.
Nothing works so far.

Does anyone have any ideas? Perhaps a file is missing...

Are you connecting to Exchange server? If not, is there a particular reason
you are running OL2000 in Corporate/Workgroup mode instead if Internet Mail
Only mode? IMO mode might make things easier on you.

Thanks for the reply,

I am not connected to an Exchange server, I just use normal Internet email
but the reason I have it set this way is that Microsoft Desktop search
requires it to index Outlook. I have already tried switching back to "normal"
mode and the same issue happens, clicking "Accounts" under the Tools menu
does nothing! Other menu items work fine.

Well, since you're in Corporate/Workgroup mode, you have a profile that can
be deleted and recreated...you might try that (through Control Panel | Mail).
In the meantime I'll try to see what else I can find out.

Hi Jocelyn,

I had considered doing that but am worried I wont be able to get any email
at all then! I have just uninstalled Office 2000 and re-installed and applied
all the updates. Still doesn't work. I have now set it as Internet mail only,
so the Tools menu shows "Accounts" but this still doesn't work either.

Interestingly, I tried Outlook Express and guess what?! The same thing
there, it wont do anything when I select create a new account!!! I tried
rebooting without any antivirus / firewall etc in case that was blocking it,
but still no go. I really am at a loss..

Thanks for your help so far!

Dear Jocelyn,

Many thanks for your help but I have fixed the problem now. The fact that
the problem was happening in Outlook Express got me thinking, so I
uninstalled OE, rebooted then re-installed OE again. Then the email account
settings worked in both Outlook 2000 and Outlook Express.

Best wishes,
Leon
