Make sure that your workstations have the DNS-Servers of the gateway in
their DNS-Server list.

I am having problems in connecting other computers on
my LAN to the internet. My main machine is connected
through a USB Cable Modem, this in turn is connected to
other computers through a ethernet hub. All computers can
see one another and transfere files between each other,
but not connect to the interent. I have disabled the
microsoft firewall and am running ZoneAlarm Security
Suite. All machines are running Windows XP Home. During
the "Home network setup" a bridged connection was setup.
I can see a connection to USB conection on the other
machine under network connections.

Type: - Internet Gateway
Name: - USB cable modem on Andre
Status: - Enabled

Type: - LAN or High speed Internet
Name: - Ethier Net
Status: - Enabled
IP address and DNS are set to Auto

IPCONFIG gives the following for the main machine (i.e.
with the USB modem connected) and for one of the other
machines (connected through an ethier HUB to the main
machine).

Main Machine

Ethernet adapter USB Cable Modem:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix:
IP Address :82.5.164.46
Subnet Mask :255.255.255.0
Default Gatway :82.5.164.254

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix:
IP Address :192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask :255.255.255.0
Default Gatway :

One of the other machines

Ethernet adapter Eithier Net:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix:mshome.net
IP Address :192.168.0.151
Subnet Mask :255.255.255.0
Default Gatway :192.168.0.1

The ICS is set.

Any ideas?

Richie,

this may work in some situations, but normally the ICS clients
don't need that, as the ICS server acts as a DNS proxy.

During
the "Home network setup" a bridged connection was setup.

André,

if I understood you correctly, then that was probably the wrong
choice. In your network the other computers connect through your
ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) computer.

Run the network wizard again with the appropriate choice or
remove the network bridge manually. Best procedure is probably
to disable ICS, then remove the bridge, then re-enable ICS.

ZoneAlarm can also cause problems if it is an old version or if
it is not set up properly.

Hi,

you probably have the free version of zonealarm, that one does not
support routing.

If you get the PRO version you can add the network connection to your
trusted zone, then it works.

Just try by briefly turning off zonealarm

cheers,

Best bet is to replace your Ethernet hub with a router. Connect the Cable Modem
to the WAN port of the router, then connect all your machines to the LAN ports.
Works fine with ZA Free.
