Internet connection sharing

Matt

I have two computers one running Windows 98 and the other
running Win XP PRo. They are connected together. The one
running Win 98 connects to the internet using dial up
networking. The one running XP connects using internet
connection sharing through the Win98 machine.

All works OK except that when I come off the internet on
the XP machine the modem on the Win98 machine stays
connected. Is there a way to make the modem hang up as
soon as I come off the internet on the XP machine. I have
tried setting the modem to disconnect after a short idle
time on the win98 machine but this did not work.

Also if you connect on the Win98 machine when you come
off the internet it does not give you the option to
disconnect, you have to manually click on the two tv
screens at the bottom right and select disconnect.

Sorry for the long winded question and thanks for any
help.

It sounds like the auto disconnect was disabled (the modem setting is a
totally different one). Go to internet options, either through control
panel, or from IE...tools. Click the Connection tab. Click on the dialup
connection you use to highlight it, and hit the 'settings' button. Then
click the "advanced button, and put checks in the two boxes that say
'Disconnect if idle for _ minutes' and 'Disconnect when connection may no
longer be needed', and OK your way out.

You should then get the pop up window when you close your browser or email,
and it also works when others are using the connection.

This should work, I had a Win98SE ICS gateway computer on a dialup for a
long time, and it worked fine. Now I have broadband, so no need to hang
up..8^)
