Internet connection OK - No pages displayed

I reformatted my hard disk and reinstalled Windows Me as well as my other
programs. I’m trying to make an Internet connection using ADSL: my username
and password are accepted and the connection is created. Nevertheless, no
pages are displayed. I always get the message “This page can not be
displayedâ€. At the command line, a ping to these sites is executed
successfully. No firewall was active. The line and modem has been checked
by the provider. No errors were found. I’ve installed a dial-up modem to
connect to the internet in an alternative way. And also now, the connection
is made successfully (username and password are accepted, packages seem to be
send and received) but with the internet explorer no pages are really
displayed. Always the same message “This page can not be displayedâ€.
What went wrong and why is Internet Explorer not capable to use the open
Internet Connection ?
