Internet connection much slower on 2nd networked computer?

I have a local area network with two computers, the main one is a Pentium 3 1000mHz, the
other one an older AMD K6 III+ 450mHz. I have a fast broadband connection (3000 mbps).
The network speed is 100 mbps. I just downloaded identical files on each computer, and
the primary one was downloading at 60 KB/sec and the second computer only managed 5.5
KB/sec. I'm using a router to connect the two computers and the internet and I'd think
the download speed would be similiar on either computer.

Could someone give me some ideas for troubleshooting this problem.

Thanks, John

Did you run the test more than once with the same result? Here are a few
things you could try:

Swap cables
Swap router ports
Swap NICs
Make sure you are negotiating a 100Mb-Full duplex connection at both ends.

Does it make any difference if you download on both at the same time? Start
one before the other?

There are tons of things that could cause this, but I'd start with hardware
and settings, and post again if you don't find the answer.
