internet connection lost?

we can connect to the 'net - but browser window not workin
When we start up, a mesage appears which says " your profile could not be loaded - it may be corrupted
Desktop has changed as well - shortcuts have disappeare
Files appear to have been move
Have contacted BT, but they say it may be a prob with hard drive
any ideas please

Go to C://Documents and Settings/ find the folder for the user who's having rename for example JohnOld. Then restart the computer. When you log back in, it will create a new folder for the user. You should have the basic desktop items. Go back to the old user file and copy over your favorites to your new user folder. Hope this helps.
