In a misguided, albeit testosterone-fuelled attempt at doing-it-myself, I
re-formatted my hard-drive and reloaded xp. Everything works fine except my
connectivity. I suspect the drivers for my nic card. How do I troubleshoot,
find and update drivers, find what the connection baud rate should be etc. I
would really appreciate some pointers with this

Unless your NIC is as very old, XP should find it and install the drivers
automatically.

Go into Device Manager and uninstall the nic. Turn off computer.
Physically remove the nic. Reboot. Turn off. Install Nic. Reboot. XP
should do the rest.

The reboot in the middle may not be needed but I like to do it anyway just
in case the registry needs a change or two.

i found my problem isn't driver related...i have updated them. i now suspect
a lan setting. my speed is stuck on 10Mbps whereas i think it shud be 100. In
the adapter properties, if i select any of 100 full/100 half/ 10 full/10 half
i hang up. only one that works is auto feature, which is forcing 10 on me. In
fact, all properties are set to auto...DNS, WINS, IP Address. One thing i
noticed that in the properties, the IRQ# for the adapter does not match the #
that shows up on my start up utility. help! i don't want to give up yet!

I've updated the drivers but haven't tried the suggestion out...yet. But i
have a problem w/ a lan setting. My connection speed is stuck on 10Mbps when
it should be 100. All features under my TCP/IP properties are set to
auto...DNS, WINS, IP address.
help!
