Internet connection goes to sleep

I have a strange problem - after a few hours of
inactivity, I lose my Internet connection and have to re-
boot to restore it. I can still connect to my home
network during this time, but not the Internet.

- using WinXP Home
- network is configured to connect to the Internet via a
router, but I still have an "Internet Connection" that
shows up under Network Connections, as if I have Internet
Connection Sharing setup, which I don't.
- when the Internet connection on this machine "goes to
sleep," I can still connect to the Internet from other
computers sharing the same router; the problem is specific
to this computer.
- The "Internet Connection" doesn't show up in Network
connections until about a couple of minutes after I boot
up.
- I don't know if this is related or not, but the
Automatic Update always freezes at 0% when it tryies to
download.
- I have ZoneAlarm installed.

The computer seems to think I'm using a shared Internet
connection, but it's not configured to do that.

Any help?
