I posted this message a couple of days ago, but can't get
to it now to see if I have any responses because after
page 3 I get a "newsgroup unavailable" message. If
anyone responded to this message please be kind enough to
repost please :) . Any word on when the newsgroup will
be back to normal? I use this resource a lot, but this
is getting annoying.

I have several XP Pro machines running in a Windows
Server 2003 domain with the internet connection firewall
turned on to prevent the annoying messenger spams while
still allowing administrative alerts to be sent over
messenger.

I can't seem to connect to any of the administrative
shares for the hard drives of the machines. With the
firewall turned off, I can.

How do I configure the internet connection firewall to
allow access to the administrative (and non-
administrative for that matter) shares on the XP machines
from within the domain? Thanks.

try using OE as a newsreader instead of the horrible web access.

You are using a stone-age tool! Outlook Express is great. You will love
it. By the way, it is not unheard of for posts to vanish into the ether when
servers have problems. Sometimes hundreds of posts just "go away." However,
depending on which method you use to view newsgroups, DIFFERENT posts will
be missing. If you have both methods enabled, you can choose which one to
use in the event of server problems.

WinXP's built-in firewall is _not_ designed for use on an internal
LAN, and should be disabled. The only firewall you should have
running is the one on your proxy server, the machine that connects
your network to the Internet.
