I have a cable modem, although i have checked device manager and have run
diagnostics on my computer, it seems i cant connect to it after my computer
has remained idle for a time. After i restart everything works fine but if i
leave it idle for a while it goes down. My connection is active ive called
my cable company and they have verified this, but my all my internet
connections seem blocked. Now i know what your thinking its a firewall.
Its not i only have one, ZoneAlarm free edition, and ive shut it down a
couple of times to see if it was causing this malfunction. Im kinda at my
wits end if i could get some new input on this it would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanx
Justin

You're not the only one with this problem, mine times out
when the system goes idle, and I have DSL it should be
connected 24/7, I do a work around by using the DOS shell
to ping my ISP home page, it's quicker than waiting for my
first attempt at browsing to fail, then try again it works
, so far no solution, if you find one, let me know.
my ISP suggested a reinstall, I don't see that as necessary
nor do I want to do that.
What I do is go to start, run, CMD (opens the DOS Shell)
then ping (my home page) even if it fails, it somehow
wakes up the connection, and I just open up IE and it
connects.

Current AV?

Restoring doesnt do any good ive tried so dont its a big hassle for no
results LOL

But thankyou for the cmd suggestion i didnt know that :-)

Are you asking as to suggest it might be a virus??
I wouldn't close my mind to the idea entirely, however I
think it highly unlikely, I have both hardware/software
firewall current Norton AV with current DEF's, keep my
system updated/patched (actually I think this problem was
caused by a recent MS security patch)
but with all the security issues ongoing, I was hoping
someone had encountered this and wupped it.

Check the power management tab for the network card in device manager.
uncheck "Allow windows to shut down to save power"
