Hi Group,

I've slipstreamed the RTM 2180 SP2 build into my XP Professional CD and have
reinstalled with no problem. What appears to be happening is that on
initial startup (after the system has been shut down cold, like overnight)
Zone Alarm (personal version 5.1.011.000) appears not to load (no icon in
Notification Area). When this happens I cannot launch Outlook Express from
the Quick Launch bar, nor can I get the Task Manager to open to end the
program. Anybody else seeing this issue? I suspect if I uninstall Zone
Alarm, the problem might go away, but I want the protection of blocking
outbound traffic that Windows Firewall does not provide...

You need to at least temporarily uninstall Zone Alarm to help see if
it is the cause.
Enable ICF first.
If ZA is the cause, perhaps it was corrupted in some way.
Download and reinstall again.

Thanks. I will give that a try and see what happens. I've noticed that
Windows Firewall turns off (when turned on) when Zone Alarm is active. If
you disable Zone Alarm, Windows Firewall turns back on without intervention.
I'm guessing this is by design. A little different than the old ICF....

I've had exactly the same symptom. Only fix I've found is to jus
uninstall ZA. I'd prefer the outbound protection of ZA, but it fail
enough that I'll just use the Windows firewall for now.

I did notice that several versions of ZA are listed on Microsoft'
"programs that have problems with SP2" site. Apparently ZA doesn'
quite have it right yet - hopefully the next version won't have thi
issue
