Intermittent Internet Connection Lose...PLEASE HELP

Using XP Home Edition with all of the current updates....

I've noticed some significant time-out problems with my email for the
past week or two and recently I've had intermittent email time-outs
and connection problems to the internet.

Called Time-Warner Cable and they are empathic that the signal to the
cable modum is fine, that the "IP address is not processing correctly"
and if it continues, to call a pc "pro" or reformat my HD.


Did some ipconfig testing and got the following for both my IP Address
and Default Gateway:

PING: transmit failed, error code 65


I uninstalled ZoneAlarm & still have an intermittent lose.

I've found that re-booting or using "Repair This Connection" both
restore my connection!!!


I've done some Network Diagnostics>Scan Your System testing---

The scan before the connection dropped showed everything Passed.

The scan during the connection outage showed that Network Adapters,
DNS Servers, Default Gateways, and DHCP Servers all Failed

The scan after "Repair This Connection"  fixed the problem showed
everything Passed.

Any suggestions???

PS: I should've said that this computer is now connected directly to a
cable modem, although a few weeks ago I had used a router and ran an
ethernet cable from the router to this PC.

Start by making sure that your drivers (for the network card) are totally up to
date. Check with the vendor.

Make sure that you don't have a power management setting problem.

Then look for an LSP / Winsock / TCP/IP problem. And prepare to un install and
re install the network card, physically.

amount of power...."

As far as an LSP / Winsock / TCP/IP problem, the few times I've
totally lost internet connection, "Repair This Connection"  fixed the
problem.

QUESTION- If I lose my connection again, is there something to test
to help diagnose the cause before using "Repair This Connection?"

If the above solution doesn't work, or isn't applicable, diagnose the problem a
bit. When this happens again, open a command window, and type two commands, one
after the other:
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
