intermittent dropped connectios to wireless access point

Here's the setup: Cable modem with wireless access (and 4
port router). Netgear wireless access point and a cisco
aironet pcmcia card in my XP laptop.

When connected via ethernet, great connection. When
accessing wirelessly I am dropped intermittently and only
momentarily from the access point.

Seeking recommendations on how to resolve based upon
others experience.
