Intermitten problem with sending and receiving

I am having a problem with our computers losing their
connection to send and receive emails. Can't find the
smtp server. To fix tnis all we have to do is log the
user off the computer and then log them back on and the
email program works. We use a cable modem , router and a
hub to connect to the internet. We are using Outlook 2000
professional and Windows 2000 professional.

I don't understand why it loses it's connection. It will
be working one second and the next it doesn't. Sometimes
it works all day with no problem and then you come in in
the morning and it doesn't work. It happens at very
random times and some days are worse than others.

When you're losing connection to the SMTP server, are you able to surf the
web in general?

How many computers are you talking about? Is the connection lost for each
computer simultaneously?
