"Interface not registered " message in Outlook -Office XP

In Outlook (Office XP), when specifying Tool>Options>Mailformat>"use MS Word
to edit e-mail messages" in HTML or Rich Text format, I get the message
"Interface not registered " when trying to write and send a mail in Outlook.
In other words, I cannot use Word as my e-mail editor.
