Interesting bug

I have an interesting phenomenon occurring. It seems as if my laser printer
(USB) can send a signal to my computer and it restarts. It has happened when
I print to the laser (occasionally) and sometimes when I put paper in the
laser (without printing). I imagine it is a defect in the printer (a few
years old with great service). I am looking for any other ideas as to why
this happens. The computer just reboots - I get no message that it is
recovering from a serious crahs or anything like that.

Any ideas???

You are presumably blue-screening and are set to the default (a poor
default, in my view) of rebooting when that happens. Right-click on My
Computer and choose Properties. On the "Advanced" tab, under "Startup
and Recovery," click "Settings," then under "System failure," uncheck
the box "Automatically restart." That will prevent it restarting and
keep the blue screen up.

Then you will be to read the blue screen and copy down what it says.
Post back with that information for more help.

I checked the setting and the box is not checked - so it should not
automatically restart. What I see is the screen go black and the startup
sequence begins. I thought it may be a USB hub gone bad - so I moved the
connection: same occasional issue occurs. Sometimes it blows up - other
times it prints.

Remove and reinstall the printer driver.
Get the latest driver version from the
manufacture's web site.

Try connecting directly to the computer instead of through the hub .

This sounds pretty much like an electrical noise or static problem. Just
putting paper
in the machine should not cause any problem. Check for a good AC ground
connection.
