Interconnection is lost

Hi,

I'm running Windows XP Pro for about one year now and everything was working
fine. Up to now! Recently my internet connection tray icon (consisting of 2
small monitors) suddenly disappears and internet connection is lost.
I'm able reconnect again, a reboot of the PC is not necessarily.
The modem is an Alcatel Speedtouch USB Modem. Both green LED's are still
burning after being disconnected, this indicates that problem is probably
not hardware/firmware related imho.

I've run a full virusscan (McAfee), but McAfee did not report any viruses.

Does anybody know the cause of the problem?

Thanks in advance,

Without knowing anything else, it sounds like a problem with your ISP.
To me it sounds like the problems I used to have, occasionally, while
using DSL. The ISP called it a "sync-no-serve" connection, which
meant that my modem was talking to the ISP servers but not passing any
packets in either direction. Unfortunately I had to reboot to regain
the connection.
