Intellimouse Drivers?

I have installed the current drivers for my mouse hoping to assign the
functions I am used to using in XP especially the back button.
The mouse now appears in the control panel but I can't assign the functions.
I have the basic ones which I had even before the drivers but nothing else
except the mouse is identified now.

Is this still an issue with Microsoft mice and Vista or is there something I
need to do in order to have mouse control?
I hope this isn't a double post as my first attempt would not load at all.

I'm using a program called X-mouse to assign my buttons in Vista, instead of
the intellimouse drivers. I have a intellimouse optical, and this works
better that the bloated intellimouse drivers. There is a x86 and an x64
version as well. Try getting it at the link below.
