Intel updates

I'm trying to make sure my PC is updated. I went to Intel's website and
found the downloads for mine (D845EBT, Win XP Home SP2). I am not a
hardware person so I asked Intel what I should download. Their response
was:

For simplicity, after the operating system has been installed, you may
download just the BIOS Express Update and execute the application. As for
the drivers, you would need to download all the drivers for the operating
system that you intend to install.

I tried installing the Express BIOS but it just told me it was unsuccessful.

I have installed the Application Accelerator and USB 2.0 driver with
success. I don't have RAID so I know I don't need that but have no idea if
I need:

Integrated Audio Driver
Integrated LAN Driver
Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility (Inf)
USB QFE for USB 2.0 Support

How does one know how to look for these things? I went to the Device
Manager but I didn't see these in there. Of course, I don't even know what
I'm looking for.

Can you help me or should I leave well enough alone?

Thank you,
Debbie

Debbie, from what I can tell your board supports the devices below and
you probably have these located on your
Motherboard. In that case I would download and install all those that you
have listed . Be very careful when attempting
Bios updates. Make sure you read the instructions and understand the
procedure thoroughly.
a.. Support for up to 6 USB 2.0 Ports
b.. AC'97 compliant integrated sound with up to 6 channels of output
c.. Integrated 10/100 Ethernet LAN port
d.. Two channels of Ultra ATA100

If the machine is working happily for you I would leave well alone
