Intel graphics card and aero

I know this may be a redundant question but I cannot figure out how to get
windows aero to work. Under color schemes only windows vista basic is an
option: I do not have the aero option. My graphics card is a Mobile Intel(R)
915GM/GMS/910GML Express Chipset Family (Microsoft Corporation - XDDM). I've
read in many posted questions that it is now capable to handle windows aero.
The only problem is under these posts the responses to the questions fail to
list solutions to this problem. Could someone please help me by providing me
with a step by step instructional. Furthermore, I've checked for driver
updates and so far it looks like I'm all caught up.

Good luck..If you find wddm drivers for that card, lemme know.

Intel hasn't come out with wddm drivers yet, and most are saying they never
will.

Intel has a newer drivers for this card. It's not wddm, but it made
everything look better.

Hey I'm trying to follow these steps but I'm finding myself a bit more
illiterate with computers than I originally thought. Where can I change the
registry values? And what do you mean by DWM?

It doesn't work, I tried that today.

Click on the start orb, in the start search white space type regedit and hit
enter
navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM and follow the
steps as described in the post.

but like I said it's doesn't work....or didn't work on my notebook.

You have an Intel GMA900 video system. There is no WDDM driver
(required to run Aero) for that system. Originally, it had been stated
that there would never be a WDDM driver for that system, but there was a
report last week that Intel had changed their mind and that such a
driver would be released (the report was on the web from someone
claiming to be an Intel employee, but it was never confirmed). So the
answer is you can't run Aero (Glass) at this time, and it's uncertain if
you will ever be able to do so.

It's even uncertain whether or not the subsequent system, GMA950 (used
in the 945 chipset), will officially run Aero in the production release
of Vista, although at least in that case, it was possible to run it in
some early beta versions. But the registry hacks and drivers that did
that in early beta versions don't work in RC1 or RC2, as far as I know.

You see thats why I got a AMD Turion 64. Why You ask?????? INTEL Sucks
Eggs!!!!!!!!!!!!! Does this aero Problem affect Duo2???? Cause if it did I
would laugh my Head off.....

I've heard of some people who have had success by "forcing" aero through
hacking. Is this possible? If so how do I do it or is it far too
complicated?............sorry about all the questions.

And I forgot to ask....Is there a difference between RC1 and RC2? where can I
get the upgrade from 1 to 2. I purchased RC1 from the microsoft windows
vista website. Is there a chance that aero would work on RC2 if it is not
currently working on RC1?

You are so far off base .... this is not a processor issue, at all. It
has to do with another chip in the laptop (not the processor) that also
happens to be made by Intel, in this particular laptop.

It's been done successfully on GMA950 with some of the earlier beta
versions of Vista, but as far as I know it was never done successfully

There is no upgrade from RC1 to RC2. Installing RC2 over RC1 has
produced mixed results .... it's worked for some people, not for others
(and in any case, even if it does work, it's not recommended). We don't
know the exact changes from RC1 to RC2, but there were changes. If you
have RC1, your product key will work with RC2, you just have to get the
download (2.5 gigabytes). It was publicly available for a while but I
think has been removed. However, you should be able to find it online.
Of course, the code without a product key is useless, but apparently
you have a key.

I have the GMA 950/945GM chipset and Areo works fine for me with default
settings. Worked in RC1 and now with RC2 5744

Hi Joey,
Currently RC1 Build 5600 is the most current beta for general public, if
anyone knows otherwise please correct me.
I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 with the same Intel Graphics chip you have.
915gm/915gms Express chipset etc. Of course the only thing express about it
is how quickly you find out what it CAN’T do!
I installed the newest drivers and software from Intel today for this chip
set. I have the same results as you, improvements but no Aero Glass.
From what I can see in the Vista details, Vista does not see the graphics
card.
See Below : Notice the Graphics section, Vista see the adapter, but not much
more.

RC2 got out to the public but one had to act fast as it was throttled to
100,000 downloads or so and then pulled. If you have a Technet or MSDN you
can get still it. Yes, I watched this group daily and jumped and got both
the x64 and x32 ( i386). It's very similar to RC1 although there are
supposed to be various tweaks. I installed the Office 2007 Beta on it and it
got totally hosed. So I had to remove it. Now I am putting it on another
machine and will just run the MSDN Express editions of Visual C# J++ etc.,
and SQL Server Express.

I won't run Vista on my "main" machine as I find the terms of the upcoming
EULA unacceptable [I wondered if that day would ever arrive - I hope
Microsoft relents - there's still time].

I guess I'm lucky I missed RC2 because I am using Office 2007 as well! I am
running Vista on my LapTop (non-critical) and a secondary drive on my
desktop. All my critical data is still on XP on primary drive on desk top.

Any ideas from anyone why Vista does not "see" all that my video card is
capable of?

Thank you very much Session Event for the update, and good luck.

Mark

I tried this too, and you're right, it does't work! When you type the final
instruction, ie: Type 'net stop uxsms'
- Then 'net start uxsms' do you get an error: Access denied! I do!
