I'm working on a Dell 2400 using Win Xp Pro. Looks like a virus (or two) got
in here. They were using Adelphia cable no problem 'til couple of months ago.
Then when trying to access the Internet, got the Int. display bar at bottom
of window (where it shows address of what's downloading to page) flickering
like crazy. Can't do anything with it.
I don't have Adelphia, only dial-up. I was trying to setup an Internet
connection, but there was no Internet Options icon in Control Panel. How can
I get it back?? Any ideas out there? I don't think the guy has any OS CD.
Where could that icon be?? Help, please. Thanks.

Hi Barb,

You will need to disable your own system and load your info to test via the
internet. Tough break for trying to help someone while you are using
dial-up.

I can only suggest, going to the client's home and running:

Winsock Fix (Line 349):

Run Ad-Aware SE, Spybot and HijackThis:

Note: Update each program, once installed, before running.

As per Internet Options being missing, run line 268:

Hi Kelly - Thanks for reply; I will try out these suggestions. First, I'll
see if I can get the Int. options icon back. Then I'll go to their house.
A little confusing here: "You will need to disable your own system and load
your info to test via the internet."
When I set up Internet connections on someone else's computer (on my
testbench), I just add a connection using my Sovernet ISP numbers. I don't
interfere with my own office computer. At my house, we can't det DSL, so we
suffer with dial-up.

Most welcome and good luck!

What I meant was that once you add your dial-up info and utilize it on
another system, your internet access, etc will need to be put on hold on
your system. Unless you set it up via ICS or similar. Either way, hope all
goes well. Thanks for the reply. :o)
