Insufficient USB Headers on Motherboard

Hi all,

I have an MSI k8n Diamond Plus, which has 3 usb headers, supporting 2
usb connections each. However, i require more USB headers, and i was
wondering, is there either a PCI, PCI Express x1, or a 5.25 inch
bay-mountable USB hub that provides usb headers (not internal ports) or
an adapter to convert a USB port into a USB header? I cannot seem to
find one.

You just need to buy and plug into one of your current USB ports a USB Hub.
It will add many ports.

Hmm.

Pick one, what exactly is it that you prefer?

There are USB PCI cards with pin headers in addition to the
usual type A female sockets, but most only have the sockets
so you need to review the card specs or see a good picture.
Last time I looked at http://www.newegg.com they had at
least two such cards, and they have good enough pictures
that you can see the header.

Hubs almost never provide output headers. If you're
ambitious, skilled with a soldering iron you could modify a
hub to do this, or there is probably some obscure place
online that you can buy a cable adapter with a male type A
plug on one end and a 4 or 5 pin (maybe 8-10 pin though half
the pins would be unused) header on the other. Well there
is the obvious place that carries a lot of stuff like this,
FrontX,

I have to wonder why you'd need so many sockets though,
instead of putting a hub on one of them for the additional
type A female sockets and that freeing up one of the other
pin headers to plug in the additional device that requires a
pin socket.

Hubs do come in bay-mounted style too, though less common
and still none that I'm aware of have an extra output pin
header.

Yes, this is a common item. You can also get hubs just about anywhere.
I've used the USB PCI cards, they work fine. Hubs also work fine.

There are also bay-mountable hubs, such as these.

Firstly, i apologize for taking so long to respond. School started, i
became busy, and forgot to log on to Groups for a while :p

Anyways, thanks for all your help. I found an appropriate card on
Newegg. I actually do need the 2-pin-wide header, but said card
supplies them. If that doesn't cut it, i can just modify a USB cable
(modifying a hub is too finicky for me, i'm liable to unwittingly
create a connection between two adjacent closely-packed traces with
some solder) to, instead of connecting one USB port to another, connect
both to a header.
