Instant Messaging via WLMDbeta

I tried to send an IM via WLMDbeta (Actions menu - "Send and Instant
Message") to a contact that was online and I noticed that all the options
for Instant Messaging through WLMDbeta are grayed out or not selectable. Is
this feature currently working with WLMDbeta? Both systems are running
Windows XP SP2, IE7B3 and WLM.

Thanks for your response...I can Instant Message by the way you described
from WLMD by selecting an e-mail from a contact (online or offline). But it
seems to me that you should be able to do this without having to select an
e-mail from a contact. If the contact is online and you have WLMD open, you
should be able to go to the "Actions" menu and send an instant message, but
all IM options are grayed out. Is this a bug or was it intended to be that
way? I would definitely like to make this suggestion to the developers of
WLMD.

I suppose it was intended that way: replying a mail by IM. But I agree the
integration of WLMD and WLM at this point ain't wat it should be. But
otherwise u wouldn't need WLM anymore.

The integration of WLM is needed for WLMD...WLM is where your contact
information is stored for WLMD to draw upon. Let's just hope that further
integration occurs between the two so that you can IM a contact without
first having to select a contact's e-mail. If any deleveloper or MVP knows
more about the integration between the two, please enlighten.

If you ask me, well, I'm telling it anyway- the whole situation with WLMD
is just ignorant. Why in the world have Windows Mail and Windows Live
Mail Desktop? Just iggnut. For those folks not using Vista- it's just as
iggnut to have Outlook Express and WLMD. Why in the world has Microsoft
created this malfunction of mass confusion?

To top it off, the ever wise sages at Microsoft send *all* WLMD users here-
to a Windows Vista group devoted to Windows Mail. Just iggnut.
