Installshield from Macrovision/Need to know what it is

I see the follwoing lines in the startup related to Installshield: ISUSPM.exe
and issch.exe. I searched the Net and it seems to be software related to
Macrovision. I looked for it in the Program list and in Add/Remove Programs
(Control Panel) and it is not listed. There's only a "Program Updates" icon
in Control Panel belonging to Installshield. My question is: Is this software
essential to WinXP proper functioning? If not, how can I uninstall it? Thanks.
