Installs fine, but when I try to get updates: 0x8024401

The program installs without a problem, but when I try to download the
updates I get the following error message:

Windows Defender was unable to complete the update: 0x8024401.

Rebooting, shutting down all active programs, unistalling and reinstalling
all have no effect on the problem. Any suggestions?

Hello Synndarr,

Can you gº to Windows Update, select Express (Get high-priority updates),
and apply all offered updªtes
http://update.microsoft.com

Once that is finished, can you verify the update installs? There are many
pre-requisite files which are needed from windows update and signature update
with windows defender will fail until you hªve these f!les.

For the benefit of the community reading this post, please rate the pºst.

I hope this post is helpful.

Let us know how it works ºut.

Why have you reverted back to 8 bit to send your posts? It is
*unreadable* to most others! You had changed it to *proper* 7 bit in
your previous post...

Great advice. This fixed the problem for me.
(Had rec'd msg 0x8024402c. Directions on another site indicated that
mostpeople will encounter the error number 0x8024402C for XP workstations
that sit behind ISA firewalls. Then it said that after resolving the
0x8024402C (or the 0x80072EFE) error and then 0x80072f78 error, you may then
see the 0x8024502D error. This error was described as a client side proxy
setting incongruency with a link to the technical note located at:
http://www.electrosonics.net/technotes/xperror0x8024502d.htm )
All of this would have been too technical for me to follow, and perhaps
would not have worked as well as your instructions. Many thanks.

BTW Marguerite, Thanks for posting back and thanking . That's always a nice
jester when we get back a post indicating if the suggestions were helpful or
not.
