Mary

I have been advised to use the recovery disks to fix my
home computer (will not open windows). However, the last
comment in "using the Setup Disks" notes that I will need
to use the Windows XP CD-Rom to finish Setup. Since it was
loaded into my computer, I do not have the CD. I only
have the recovery CD's that will wipe out all info to what
was originally loaded. Do I really need the CD-Rom to
finish Setup?

If possible, I need this info before 6 p.m. (CA) as I hope
to restore my home computer this wkend & only can access
email while at work. Thanks so much for your help. As you
can see, I am not very "computer literate". Mary

Mary, if you have a Recovery CD with an image of WinXP on it, then no you
don't need the WinXP CD. The recovery
disk will restore your computer as it was when you first used it.

Hi Mary,

The Windows source files will be present in the hard disk (in case of OEM
systems). The path is usually C:\i386 or C:\windows\i386.

To install recovery console:

Click Start | Run and type:

"C:\windows\i386\winnt32 /cmdcons"
