installing XP to secondary partition?

Hi there,

I have windows XP tablet installed in drive C. I've created a new
partition, drive E, in which I want to install a secondary XP installation.

If I could just configure BIOS to boot from my USB based CD-ROM drive,
everything would be fine, but I can't. My tablet PC (Toshiba Portege 3500)
only supports booting from a USB floppy drive (which I do not have).

So I tried running setup directly from the existing XP partition in drive
C:. As soon as I click "winnt32.exe" in the i386 folder, I get the
following error message:

"Setup cannot continue because the version of windows on your computer is
newer than the version on the CD".

A continue button has been grayed out, I can only "Cancel".

Any suggestions on how I can set up a new XP partition by running setup
from the existing partition?

Thanks!

Thanks. I'm pretty sure mine is a non-tablet pc specific issue. I've seen
this message on my desktop PC as well on XP Pro (not an issue because I
just boot off the CD-ROM)

Would it be possible to tell XP to tell the system to execute a file before
loading the OS? I have copied the i386 folder to the e:\ drive and if I
could just get, say, "boot.ini" to execute the setup before XP loads, that
would be perfect!

Humm, excuse me for butting in. NO, you can't setup Windows that way --- from a boot.ini nor "before loading" Windows.
Is this a Tablet PC, or a desktop?

There are ways of setting up a multi-boot system. Say, for testing purposes. Or more common, to have, say, Win2000 and Win XP --- on different HDD partitions.

IF this is a Tablet PC, you'd only want (really) XP Tablet Edition, imho.
