installing xp pro

I have a pc running xp media center, and for business purposes, I need to
install xp pro. When I put the xp pro disk in the drive, it says that there
is no hard disk. The hard disk is fine and not in danger of crashing...
The only options it gives me after saying that setup can't find the hard
drive is to cancel. This happens whether I try to run setup or repair on the
system.
It is an HP dv 8000 laptop. Less than or right around a year old.
Any help is appreciated!

You must mean in windows explorer...To install xp,one must boot to xp
cd,select
install xp,new copy,delete the partition (xpME),create one,then xp formats &
installs auto.....If youre hd is large enough,a 3rd party software could
create
another partition for xp pro,or purchase another hd and install on it...

You likely need to install controller drivers - the part in the setup prior
to where you are getting where it tells you to Press F6...
(Google for "F6 Windows XP Install" and go ahead and find out what
controller card you need drivers for.)

BTW - your XP Pro media - is it OEM or Retail?
