Installing XP on SATA

Very Unfortunately I only have one mass storage device and
it is a Maxtor SATA vt8237, and like you have replied to
Stuart M. Ray yesterday, I pressed F6 to install the drive
for my SATA, and it told me that i needed a back up floopy
disk of some sort. Very luckily i was able to get the
TXTSETUP.oem file, and the VT8237 file from my motherboard
driver disk. I copied these 2 files on to a floopy disk
and pressed F6 during the intallation again to install the
driver for my SATA. Then i got another error message that
an unexpected error has occured. error(18) or something
like that. So until now I am using Windows ME, and I am
really looking forward to install Windows XP. Do I need
more than those 2 files from the CD? If so, what are the
names of the specific files (By the way, my driver CD is a
gigabyte VUCD Ver. 2.34), and what do i really have to do
to install XP on my computer? Thank You Microsoft!

If youre running only one SATA drive then useing F6 is a waste of time,
the drivers youre trying to install are for a RAID set only.1 drive wont even
be useing them, you need to create aRAID set with 2 hds, mirrored or striped
before hand,then youd boot to xp cd,use the F6 interface,then after you'd
continue on to install xp.So very unfortunately you simply need to install xp
as one would with any IDE drive at this time.

What you want to do is to go to viaarena:
www.viaarena.com and download the VT8237 driver from
there.

Direct link:
http://downloads.viaarena.com/drivers/RAID/VIA_RAID_V310E.
zip

Open it up and extract the contents of the driver folder
to a floppy disk. The root of the floppy should end up
with a PIDE and RAID folder and a txtsetup.oem file.

Install XP, press f6 and choose the appropriate driver
from the list that should be given.

I have no idea if just using one drive will work though,
you might want to try the raid span for capacity option
within the SATA raid bios. Consult your motherboard
manual for more on this.

What you need are drivers for your S-ATA controller (which probably is
integrated on your motherboard). You should be able to download drivers
from your motherboard manufacturer. Copy them to a floppy disk and try
again.

And you really do have to do the F6 procedure, even if you just have one
S-ATA drive. Also, it's best to remove any other hard drives while you
are installing, to avoid confusion.
