installing XP Home

My friend bought a new computer a few months ago from an
individual who builds computers. Windows XP Professional was
installed. Everything was fine until he started getting messages
about registering WinXP or he would be shutdown (I think from his
ISP).
He is not computer savvy at all so he did not try to register.
Well his ISP shut him down and to make a long story short...he has
an illegal copy of Windows installed without his knowledge. He
can't get in touch with the guy who built the computer, so he
wants to go buy a copy of Windows and have me install it for him.
Well this is fine, but I was wondering if there is any way of
installing without having to format and start from scratch. I
don't know if the current version of Windows will cause problems
or not. Any help appreciated.

You'll have to purchase a "Full Version" of Windows XP
Professional and perform a "Repair Install".

Oh, one other thing...would a full version of WindowsXP Home work?

His ISP could care less what OS he is running, pay the monthly charge and
you have a connection. Whatever may be happening to his computer is not
because of his ISP.

Register or Activate Windows? Both Home and Pro editions have to be
activated after 30 days. Registration is optional, Activation is
compuslory.
