Installing XP HOme

Trying to do a fresh install of XP on my Compaq Presario 900 laptop when I go
to reformat the hard drive in NTFS it gets stuck at 22% and does nothing
more. When I do a quick format in NTFS I can get windows on but the system is
not running right slow slow slow.

Determine the make of the hard drive in your laptop then go to that
manufacturer's web site and download their free diagnostic software.
Run that to check out the hard drive for possible defects.

The windows disk has to be as clean and free of scratches as you can make it.
Mine hung up at the Hibernation file, and a sharp-eyed tech spotted the
offending mark.
