Installing WesternDigital SATA II 250 GB

Hello,

I have purchased a WesternDigital SATA II 250 GB hard drive and I have
installed it in my
MSI - 865 PE Neo2-P Motherboard.
I plugged in the cable in the SATA device and connect a power supply
in the HDD.
I thought that "that's all" and it would work but nothing happens.
Windows neither linux identify a new
hard disk.
But I don't think that there is a problem with that, but it's with the
BIOS.
Any ideas what I have to do and if anyone had the same problem?

Quite a few motherboards have the SATA disabled by default in the bios.

Its done that way because it slows down the POST having
the bios poll for SATA drives when none of them are installed.

Just turn it on in the bios, and realise that it should show up in Disk Management,
but wont show up in My Computer until partitioned and formatted.

That last wont stop it being visible in linux tho, so its likely disabled in the bios.

Yep, that bites plenty.

What version of Windows are you using? Also, your motherboard was designed
for use with SATA 1, not the more advanced SATA2.

oh yes that's true. It was written in the manual SATA1 and SATA2
meaning the connector's number!

From manual: "Both connectors are fully compliant with Serial ATA 1.0

specifications."
That means that the hard disk is useless for my motherboard?

Nope, it should work fine and most SATA2 hard
drives can be jumpered to use SATA1 as well.
