Installing SP2

I tried installing Sp2 on a 250gig Maxtor Hd and received "unmountable_boot
volume".
Can anyone give me a suggestion.

Power off
Desktop:...Open the case and reseat the hard drive IDE ribbon cable at both
ends.
Laptop/Portables:... simply remove and reinsert the hard drive.

Otherwise go to the website of the hard drive manufacturer and download
their hard drive diagnostics.

Do you have a hard drive overlay such as Max Blast?
Windows XP sometimes has issues with overlay software.
You may need to perform a Clean Installation without their overlay software
which is not needed anyway.

Thanks for the info. I am using removable hard drive cases. I think I will
try and bypass one of them and see if that is the problem. Also these
drives have 16meg caches.

I replaced the 80 pin cable without any changes but then I looked inside the
removable drive trays - 40 pin cables.
I then ran the hard drive directly off the mother board and presto all
worked. I ordered a bunch of new 133 removable trays.
