Installing SP2

I had a boatload of problems when auto update tried to install SP2. I ended
up doing a repair install of SP1a so that I could backup my important files.
Now that I have everything backed up. I did a format of my partition (NTFS)
and did a clean install of SP1a. Now, before I install anything, I would
like to get SP2 installed. Any advice on how to best proceed? I'm thinking
that I would first install any updated drivers and then download the SP2
update rather than letting auto update do it? 3 questions 1) which drivers
should I update; 2) is the firewall in SP1a secure enough to protect me while
i download the drivers and SP2 update; and 3) does this approach make sense?

Thanks in advance for all advice.

Installing Service Pack 2 (SP2)
http://support.microsoft.com/xpsp2getinstall

I don't think it is absolutely necessary to install all the latest drivers in order to install XP SP2. It is a good idea to keep everything up to date
though.

Drivers I would update include things like video, sound, printer, pretty much any device that you connect to your PC could have an updated
driver.

The most important update you could make is that of your motherboard BIOS. I have seen issues with XPSP2 related to old versions of the
BIOS.

The firewall on XPSP1 is sufficient while you connect to the internet to download XPSP2.

Before running XPSP2, I would disconnect from the internet and temporarily disable your antivirus to allow a smoother faster install of SP2.

You can download SPXP2 onto your PC and then execute the Update program.
