Greetings,

I'm going to be wiping my hd and install xp. Can I just update with sp2 or
do I have to update with sp1 first?

Thanks, Mark

SP2 includes SP1. You don't have to install SP1 first.

SP2 is cumulative.
Install SP2 before reconnecting the machine to any Internet access - it's a
safer way to go.

I would also recommend that you visit windowsupdate group and search/find
all matters concerning SP2 with lots of links and suggestions - in partic
when you come to download and install all the 60-70 other security/criticals
since SP2.

Why don't you "slipstream" SP2 into your Windows XP install CD.
This means that you will create a new Windows XP install CD with SP2 already
applied.
Google for slipstreaming.
Also, a good program that will do it for you is "Autostreamer".

Don't forget that you can get a free CD from MS with SP2 - might save a bit
of time and all the trouble with getting PS2 to download etc.
Whilst in there ordering the CD, get their very handy preparation advice for
pre-install of SP2.

If MS is giving away free sp2 cd's can I just call them and get a free xp
sp2 cd? I currently have an upgrade xp cd.

Thanks, Mark

You have to pay for shipping. It's just SP2, not XP with SP2. Or you can
download the full version and burn it to CD. After that you can slipstream
SP2 into your current install CD to create one with SP2 integrated.
Slipstreaming is simple with autostreamer.

Download Windows Service Pack 2 Standalone Version

Order Windows XP Service Pack 2 on CD

Slipstream

So I can:
1. use my original update CD
2. SP2
3. Slipstream sp2 with xp

After doing 1.2.3 can I also slipstream the latest "autostreamer" into
1.2.3. to get the latest updates all on one CD?

Thanks, Mark

1-3, Yep, that's what I said.

Yes, you can also integrate updates into the CD. I've not done that so I
can't say if autostreamer does that. There is an MS knowledge base article
on it. Here you go.
