Installing second ATA "slave" hard drive???

J

James Haughton

NEED HELP PLEASE. I just bought a new 120 gb hard drive and designated it
slave, to go with my 80 gb Master. The BIOS recognizes it but WINDOWS XP
does not. What are the steps necessary to make it work.

Thanks
James

Look in Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management/Storage/Disk
Management. (each slash is a sub-folder of the previous name) You should see
your slave drive there, probably as "disk 1". If I remember correctly, you
need to right-click on it and the resulting menu will include what you need
to do to mount a volume in that drive that will show up as a drive letter.
You will also have the option to format it, if that's needed.
