AFAIK, Quicken 95 is not compatible with XP.. there are some functions
within Quicken that will not compute correctly.. you need to upgrade to
Quicken 2000 at the very least..

Hi, Kirsty.

Those buffers and files settings were needed in MS-DOS, which was the
foundation for Windows 9x/ME and earlier. They are not needed for WinXP,
which is built on the NT platform and deals with hardware much differently
from the versions build on MS-DOS.

You apparently have the MS-DOS version of Quicken 95, not Quicken for
Windows. To use it in WinXP, you probably will need to install it in a
"DOS" window. I enclose "DOS" in quotes because WinXP does not include true
MS-DOS. It does include an emulator which many users claim is "a better DOS
than DOS".

Your best bet probably is to get a later version of Quicken. If you are
determined to install Quicken 95 for MS-DOS, then I think you will need to
use config.nt and autoexec.nt to handle the settings (like files= and
buffers=) that we used to make in config.sys and autoexec.bat. Or you may
be able to run Q95 in Compatibility Mode. I haven't actually done either of
these, so someone else will probably have to fill in the details.

There is an active Usenet newsgroup at alt.comp.software.financial.quicken.
That is probably your best hope of finding someone who knows how to get Q95
to run in WinXP. Questions about Quicken 6 (and even earlier versions) come
up there every now and then.
