Don't install the HP drivers from the disk or the XP ones. Uninstall them
from add/remove prog if there and unistall all the entries from device
manager. Go to control panel / printers and add printer. Don't use search,
choose add from list. Choose Hp and select photosmart 8000 series. When it
asks for what type of connection, use "usb virtual port". Once the printer
says installed, try a test print. If it works, go back to device manager,
and under unkown devices it should show your photosmart printer... disable
the driver to avoid it searching for new hardware on every bootup.
