Installing outlook 2007 to evaluate- isn't installing

I am trying to evalate Outlook 2007 to see if I can get the google calendar
sync to work- when I install my trial office 2007 everything but Outlook
installs. I have outlook 2000 installed and am currently using that- is that
why?

When I go thru a custom install when I click the outlook options, everything
has a red x. Can anyone advise? Thanks!

Yes, its because you have outlook 2000 installed. You need to uninstall
outlook 2000 and then install 2007.

I have 2003 installed and face the same problem. Outlook 2007 does not seem
to install.

What did you do?

You need to uninstall the older version of outlook before installing the new
one. This is because you can only have 1 version of outlook installed at a
time.

It is all very well to say uninstall the earlier version of outlook, but
what if you no longer have the CD ROM and it is Outlook 2000. I have wasted
countless hours trying to get rid of Outlook 2000 in order to install Outlook
2007. Without success I might add.

I have to say that it is this level of interconnectedness that drives
everyone nutsand costs America a lot of wasted time. It seems the people
putting these things together only ever test with the latest and greatest and
a perfect situation. Most of us out in the field have less than perfect
situations and a casual "oh uninstall the prior outlook" is less than helpful.

Have I seen correctly that the retail version will overwrite the older
versions for you?

Why on earth can you not have two revs of outlook on the same machine? MS
makes life oh so difficult.

Rob

You shouldn't need the CD to uninstall Outlook 2000. You can also delete
the program's folder and edit the registry to remove references to it,
although that's not trivial. There's also an Office removal tool at
Microsoft's download site. See this:

I have done it on occasion, but it seems to fail more than it succeeds.

Because of version-specific DLLs that are placed in the %WInDir%\System32
folder, for one thing. Not all of Outlook's files are contained in %Program
Files%\Microsoft Office
