Installing Outlook 2000 On Windows XP

Tim

Hi,

A friend bought a new computer with XP. She also have
Office 2000.

When we installed Office 2000 it went fine, but Outlook
2000 wants to be the e-mail server.

She uses AOL.

On her old machine running Windows 98 she used Outlook as
her address book only and merged those addresses into
Word when writing letters.

I finally managed to give dummy smtp and other numbers to
Outlook and import her address book.

But now when you are in Word it does not read the address
book.

Suggestions?

Thanks,

Tim

1. Outlook is not an email server - it is a mail client.
2. Did you try the No-Email installation for Outlook if she wants to use
AOL?
3. What mode is Outlook installed in - see Help->About, second line should
tell you if it is Internet Mail Only mode or Corporate or Workgroup. Sound
like you want IMO.

How did you know I searched Google? Wow.

OK, first question.

How do you do the "No-Email Installation?" Should I have
her uninstall the program and then do a custom reinstall?
Also, I'm in San Diego now and she is in Carson City and
not terrible computer adept.

I'll tell her how to check to see if she is in IMO mode.

OK, But I did scroll more than five screen back in the
google news groups and while I found lots of problems
with XP and Outlook, I found none like my friends.

If she uninstalls, is there some rules to follow while
reinstalling?

After reinstalling?

Another friend says at her work the software consultant
told them when they went to XP they had to update to
Office 2003 or they would get Outlook problems.

Thanks,

Tim
