Installing OS

Howdy: This is probably a silly question, but if I have a Compaq
computer with WinXP on it and I need to wipe it clean to get rid of a
whole mess of worms and trojans (she's a Limewire addict!) can I
install a retail version of WinXP on it or do I have to have the
Compaq version?? I plan to use WinDrvBackup.exe to back up all the
system drivers, but was wondering if I can do this with out having a
branded copy of the WinXp for Compaq. I don't know if she has a driver
disk that came with the 'puter or not. Any suggestions?

go for it....should be no problem the drivers are available on the compaq
site also. Be aware that compaq sometimes puts bios information on a
separate partition, don't delete this.

Should be no problem at all, just use the windows disk to reformat the
partition that has xp on it, and go for a clean install. You'll be
happy, just make sure you have the drivers for your ethernet, so you
can get online and download all of the drivers that you need!

Best of luck
