I have been working on my computer and trying to get
Norton Antivirus installed. In the process, the program
and or I have intervertanly deleted a file, application
and or the capability to start executables.

To add to the delema, I scanned my computer this a.m.
with a second computer and found virus's, once removed in
Backup the computer is acting as it is now, i.e.; not
being able to run executables. I retored those files from
the antivirus backup file this morning and the computer
was operational.

Now, trying to install NAV2004, I have once again
experianced not being able to start up executables. I'm
trying to find those files and or dll's that will allow
me to get my computer operational.

Any help you can provide will be great.

Dave, the lost computer user.

Dave,

Any chance of booting into safe mode and choosing "last known good"
or getting into System Restore?

Hi Dave - I hope that you do not have it but the W32/Pretty. worm virus
disables *.exe files to stop you using Regedit.exe to remove Registry
references associated with the virus.

Emails containing this Internet worm have this format;

*********
Subject: C:\CoolProgs\Pretty Park.exe

Test; Pretty Park.exe :)
*********

If you think that you may have it, go to the Symantec Anti-virus web site
and download and run the Pretty Park.Worm removal tool.

Another trick is to rename the *.exe files to a *.com extension and they
will still execute. Just remember to change them back when you have it
cleaned up.
