installing new hard drives with XP

Rae

I just built new system with new motherboard, processor, etc. I have an
existing IDE interfaced ultra pata hard drive and a new out the box,
serial SATA hard drive.
I want to install the new hard drive with fresh copy of XP professional
but want to make sure I don't accidentally erase my old hard drive. I
now have it plugged into the IDE interface.
How should I proceed with this? After everything's up and running, I
want to then copy my stuff from the old hard drive and just keep it
there using the new hard drive as boot up drive.

Also, do i run the motherboard CD set up disk after I do the XP install
or before?

thank you

Disconnect old drive and install win, read the mobo manual for any special
sata setup settings, eg Bios or F6 during the install to install raid
drivers from floppy (even if you are not using raid)
Install mobo chipset and other drivers from the cd
Update win
Connect old drive, copy data
