Installing new fonts on Windows XP

Can anyone please help? When I try to install new fonts from my CD I get the
following message:
"This TTF file is currently being used by Windows and cannot be replaced.
Wait until Windows is finished using the file, and then try again."
This happens no matter which font I choose to install.

Make sure that you don't have any applications open, such as Word
processors, or programs that require immediate use of fonts, such as
Graphics applications.

Normally all the Fonts on the Windows CD are already installed: which
one are you trying to replace?

They will be in use if you have just opened a program that would access
them; eg Word's facility to view the fonts in its list in themselves
