Installing Microsoft IIS in Win XP Pro

I run IIS successfully on desktop computer #1 that runs Win XP Pro with Svc
Pack 2. I added desktop computer #2 (Dell) also running Win XP Pro with Svc
Pack 2. Everything runs fine until I tried to install IIS. The
configuration dialog box ran and then a Norton Internet Security dialog box
appeared saying "'filename' is trying to connect to the Internet. Recommend
that you refuse the connection".

I click no and the configuration dialog box continues and never reaches
completion. I used Windows Task Manager to end the task.

Now I am trying to run System Restore to restore the operating system to
it's state as of 2 days ago. Then I plan to try again to install IIS>
System Restore also begins to run and then freezes up.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like you need another antivirus solution.

Here's an update. For System Restore, I picked a 2nd restore point and
System Restore now runs correctly. With the operating system running well, I
again tried to install IIS. As before, the "Configuring Components" dialog
box runs until the horizontal bar shows 90% completion. Then it stops.

You may consider turning off Norton products while you do the installation.
This might help keep the installation from corrupting. When you finish be
sure to turn your antivirus and other products back on! You'll likely be
prompted again when the program attempts to access the network but this time
it won't be during the actual installation.

If you're not already familiar with securing/administering IIS then I
suggest that you study this area before exploring too much. Trial and error
with IIS, or any web server software, can be quite costly.
