Installing LAN Drivers

R

Richard Wagstaff

I'm carring out a fresh install on a few workstations and they all have a
network card that Windows XP Pro doesn't recognise (Intep Pro 100).

Does anyone know if it's possible to install the LAN drivers during the
install (in a similar way of pressing F6 to add RAID drivers for instance)
or to slipstream a driver onto an installation CD?

Many thanks

There are several different ways to accomplish this, it just depends on how
you are deploying Windows XP. Both the unattended install (no imaging) and
sysprep (imaging), the two most common methods of deployment allow for
addition driver support to be deployed along with the system. You just
provide the drivers in a specific path when deploying. This path is also
customizable if need be.

Here's the root of Microsoft's Desktop Deployment Site:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/desktopdeployment/default.mspx. Lots of
good information here. You'll have to search for it, but there is a very
detailed and downloadable help file (chm I believe) that outlines the two
methods above in great detail.

You should also read into MS's new Preinstallation Environment. It's not to
bad now, but it's about to get much better.
