Installing Java

I've just run the installation programme (Java 2 Runtime
Enviroment) which I downloaded from Java.com- that is,
gone through the process of
installing it via the link I downloaded onto my desktop.

Then I got an 'Instalation complete' message, yet I still
can't run internet aplets, such as geocities...

Have I missed a step?
Thanks.

Several times I have tried to install Java. I click on
the "Free Download" link from Java.com.

The installation wiz. apears, I choose what I want to
download, and then a message says Download Complete.

Yet, still I can't use any internet java applications
(such as Geocities Website Construction)...

Have I missed something???

Did you run the Installation program after you
downloaded it?

On my Internet Explorer, when I click Tools:Internet
Options:Advanced, there is no subheading of "Java", or,
as they suggest, JIT Compiler, for me to "enable".
Has anyone an idea of what the problem might be?
James.
