Hi.

I am having problems installing IIS on my xp pro. I go to add/remove
programs... choose IIS.. the installer starts installing, but then just stops
in the middle of everything.

I let it stay for like 15 minutes thinking maybe it was working, cuz it says
in task manager that its running... but still its not doing anything.

Any tips on what might be wrong?

disable antivirus software, use task manager to stop any unneeded programs,
start install and go for a drive--come back two hours later...15 minutes is
a long time, but iis does take a while

Have you disabled any default serveices?

ok I did what you said... and its supposed to be done now. But I dont know
where IIS is. I can't find it on my programs list. How do I start it?

The 'Internet Information Services' console can be found in the
'Administration Tools'

I can't find the console in there. I have lots of things, but not IIS console
in that folder... Its probably not installed then... weird since it didnt
give me an error msg...

Any other tips?

Maybe you'll get better help from the experts in the IIS newsgroups.

I'm having the same problem. Installation hung forever, then I tried to
uninstall/reinstall and it just will not load the iis console into Admin
tools. It's not there and I can't seem to get Windows to recognize this fact.

When I do a reinstall, it just seems to skip the whole last step (where it
got hung up the first time -- like it's saying "oh, that bit's already there,
so we can skip this" instead of trying to actually install it.

I suspect there's some registry entry somewhere that we need to zero out to
make this work.
