Installing games

New to Vista Beta. I have been trying to install games such as Brothers in
arms, Tiger Woods, Need for Speed and others. I am not sure why but none of
these seem to want to work. They install fine but when i try to play it does
nothing. I have tried them in compatibility mode already and still nothing.
Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this problem. Any help would be
appreciated.

Try right-clicking on the desktop shortcut and select 'Run as
administrator'. If that doesn't solve the problem, then uninstall the
games. Reinstall the games by right-clicking on the installer and selecting
'Run as administrator'. Post back and let us know if you have any success.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately that did not work either, no success. When
they did not work i uninstalled them. I tried reinstalling them the way that
you said "run as administrator" and still nothing. Its got me confused of why
its not working. I tried running as administrator after install as well as
just clicking on the icon.

I have the same problem with Game Maker, it's seems that this is a DirectX
problem, but i really don't know with component of this "new" DirectX 10
causing this problem.

I see that all problems with games are causing by Direct X, reinstalling
DirectX or installing older version didn't resolve problem, i all ready
tried this.

If anyone resolved this problems, please write.

Thanks.

I don't think Direct X 10 is the problem. It isn't backwards compatible so
DX9 based games will be using the version of DX9 in Vista and not DX10. I
found that the updates that have been periodically added to DX9 are missing
from Vista. Download DX9 from http://www.microsoft.com/directX and see if
that helps.

I downloaded Direct X 9, but even when i installed it, they say that they is
DirectX 10 and still are problems, when running games that using libraries
of DX9.

Maybe it's not a DX problem, but if not DX, then what?

I tried it as well and i am still not able to run any games. Its a bit
frustrating when you bulid your own system to be used for gaming and the
games will not work. I hope someone has the answer...

Hello
Ya, XP thats a good one. I think once they have all the bugs out of this
one that it will be the best operating system that i have seen yet. I did
figure out a way for most games if not all will work on. There is a new build
which came out last week i beleive. Build 5536 Pre-RC1. It has fixed the
gaming problems. Still though there are a few programs that are not
compatible with this version. One for instance is Alcohol120. It will not
even work in compatibility mode. This version does work so much better even
if it does still have a few bugs. So you do not loose anything on hd it will
upgrade from older build. Good luck to everyone.
